Springville, UT (August 12, 2015) – Saipan is a small United States territory located in the western Pacific Ocean just North of Guam. The island is about 45 square miles and has a population of approx. 50,000. On Sunday, August 2, 2015, the center of Super Typhoon Soudelor passed directly over the island ripping up power lines and trees, flipping cars, and demolishing homes and businesses with wind gusts exceeding 200 MPH. The destruction left hundreds of residents homeless and seeking shelter at local schools, thousands of residents without power, and even more without drinking water or basic necessities.
Stephanie Dalton, an accountant in the Lone Tree corporate office, has friends living in Saipan and wanted to help. Together with Lone Tree, she shipped six large boxes of hygiene kits and supply care packages to typhoon victims in Saipan where they will be distributed among the villages on the island. Each kit contains a comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, bar soap, wash cloth, hand sanitizer, hair ties, bobby pins, Band-Aids, Q-tips, and a bag of assorted candies to provide a little comfort for those in need.
The island of Saipan has a rough road ahead as they work to recover from Super Typhoon Soudelor’s impact.
“Hopefully these kits will make that recovery just a little easier,” Stephanie commented.
